"Love Once Lived Here" is a long-term photo essay exploring the lives of families whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed by human-caused and natural disasters, such as floods, fire outbreaks, and government demolitions.
In 2021, a devastating demolition by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Iddo Sarki, Abuja, left many families instantly homeless. Most residents were caught off guard, losing everything due to an alleged lack of prior notification.
This photo essay presents a poignant contrast between the families' current circumstances and the memories of the homes where they once shared love and experiences. The work aims to depict the resilience of those actively rebuilding their lives.
Through this series, a light is shed on an underreported issue affecting Nigerian communities. Rather than portraying the subjects solely as victims, the photographs showcase their inherent strength and determination to rebuild.
