Guardians of the Throne: Exploring Traditional Security Systems in Nigeria
This long-term photographic project delves into the fascinating world of traditional security systems in Nigeria, highlighting the often-overlooked yet vital roles of local guardians who protect their monarchs and communities.
The project begins with the Dogari, a native administration policeman and member of the chief's bodyguard in Northern Nigeria. Adorned in ceremonial regalia, the Dogari embodies the rich cultural heritage and history of the region.
Through this project, we aim to explore the diverse traditional security systems across various cultures in Nigeria, showcasing the unique customs, rituals, and practices that define each community's approach to protection and defense.
From the Dogari to other local guardians, this project will traverse the country, documenting the stories, traditions, and faces of those who safeguard their kingdoms, chiefs, and people.
