HANDS THAT RECYCLE
HANDS THAT RECYCLE
"Hands That Recycle" is a photographic project that explores the lives of scavengers, popularly known as Mai Bolla, or "Owner of Waste," in Abuja, Nigeria. Contrary to public perceptions of scavengers as disorganized and unkempt, the Mai Bollas are a group of organized men, predominantly from the Hausa-speaking community, who earn a living by recycling plastic, metal, and paper waste.
This project focuses on the often-overlooked hands that drive the recycling process, documenting the various equipment and tools used by the Mai Bollas to sort, dismantle, and assemble waste. By shedding light on the intricate details of their work, "Hands That Recycle" aims to showcase the ingenuity and dedication of these unsung heroes of sustainability.
